1.

Q: Other UDF drivers cannot write to the disk formatted with DVD Write Now.

A: Many UDF drivers can write only to the disks formatted with their own formatters. Thus, it is possible, that the disk formatted with DVD Write Now will be available in Read Only mode on computers with other UDF drivers installed. In such a case we recommend you to install DVD Write Now on all computers. Also you can format the disk, used for interchange, by other UDF driver.

2.

Q: Windows 2000/XP/2003 built-in UDF driver cannot read DVD disk formatted with DVD Write Now.

A: Some devices (e.g. Pioneer DVR-105) improperly return disk layout information for Quick Formatted DVD disk. Windows 2000/XP/2003 built-in UDF driver cannot workaround this problem. We recommend you to perform Physical Full Format in such case.

3.

Q: DVD Write Now drivers cannot perform read/write operations with the disk formatted with Other UDF packages.

A: There are some possible reasons:

  • the disk was created with non-standard extension (e.g. compressed UDF).
  • the disk was created using Quick Physical Format, also known as Mount Rainier (MRW), but your drive doesn't support this mode.
  • the disk was formatted with other recorder, which is incompatible with your one. Unfortunately, sometimes this happens (e.g. with BENQ drives).

4.

Q: Disk cannot be formatted after Quick Erase.

A: This problem can occur if CD/DVD−recorder requires Full Erase in order to proceed with format.

5.

Q: Disk cannot be formatted after Full Erase.

A: There are some possible reasons:

  • there are conflicting UDF drivers in your system. Usually drivers from different vendors cause conflicts.
  • the device is not compliant with standards. In such a case you should notify developers of DVD Write Now in order to add support for such device.
  • damaged CD/DVD−RW disk. Some CD/DVD−RW disks become unusable after some Erase cycles.
  • the device didn't actually perform Full Erase after Quick Erase (such effects were observed with Sony CRX0811). In this case we recommend you to record to this disk a short data session with any CD−burning software. Then attempt to perform Full Erase.

6.

Q: Disk cannot be formatted or erased in VMWare environment.

A: This problem occures with some versions of VMWare. When physical CD−RW drive is exposed to virtual machine as IDE/ATAPI device, some requests do not reach the device. We recommend to configure VMWare in order to expose physical CD/DVD−RW drive as virtual SCSI device.

7.

Q: Disk cannot be formatted or erased in Windows environment.

A: Check if you are logged in with administrative rights.

8.

Q: Files are recorded to disk and read back without errors, but further comparison of the origin and copy contents shows differences in some bytes.

A: Many modern CD/DVD drives are tuned for audio/video recording and playback. This type of data is very sensetive to data transfer rate. The same time small byte errors do not noticeably affect quality of decoded audio/video stream. You may hear just a short click or see minor picture distortion. That is whay simplified error detection and correction algorithms are used. Byte errors are often not reported at all. We recommend to store all important data in archives with built-in error detection and correction algorithms (e.g. RAR) and if it is possible keep multiple copies,

After new CD/DVD drive is connected Windows hangs on startup, goes to reboot or makes blue screen. 9.

Q: After new CD/DVD drive is connected Windows hangs on startup, goes to reboot or makes blue screen.

A: This is bug in our software. Please, make bug report as described in Tech support section. In some cases you can use workaround:

  • Make sure that there is no disk in the drive. Some drives hangs during capability detection process if disk is inserted.
  • It is possible to prevent DVD Write Now from any operations with given device via Registry settings.
  • Disconnect new drive, boot up system and deinstall DVD Write Now, turn off your computer, connect the drive, boot up and install DVD Write Now again.
